Speak out now against irresponsible budget cuts!
Montana legislators kicked off the budget process by proposing $1 billion cuts to essential services all to pave the way for tax breaks for millionaires that would turn Montana into Kansas overnight. Speak out against these irresponsible and harmful cuts and sign this petition to your legislators!
We need look no further than three years ago to understand the impacts of what cuts do to communities. Every corner of Montana faced the consequences: hundreds of jobs lost, service providers closed their doors, parents of children with developmental disabilities unable to find services, aging parents and those with disabilities on waitlists to get services so they could stay in their homes, and increased pressure on local communities, schools, and law enforcement when basic safety net programs and behavioral health services disappear. This makes it all the more outrageous that legislative leadership kicked off the session to cut many of those same services - again.
Our state needs new revenue and tax fairness policies—not budget cuts and tax breaks for the wealthy and special interests. Legislators must look at our tax system as a whole and consider common-sense options to bring in new revenue and make our tax code more fair—but it will take real leadership from both sides of the aisle
